The Puffling Patrol
#1
A puffling is a baby puffin. A town in Iceland takes caring for  pufflings very seriously. When they fledge they need to head towards the ocean. The town lights can confuse them and they fly inland. Once they are down on the ground they cannot take off. The puffling patrol are a team of dedicated volunteers who seach the town at night and rescue the little pufflings. They hold them over night and release them over the ocean by daylight.
They are a committed team and they won't give up until a puffling is rescued.

It is a good thing there are dedicated puffling rescuers. Puffin numbers have declined a lot in recent years.
The town has been doing this for over 100 years. Every year they see the numbers go down.
Every puffin chick is very important. If the colony is to survive it will take a lot of work. They have the people willing to do it.
