Japan builds Whaling Mothership

Japan is building a large whaling ship capable of reaching the Antarctic. It is called a mother ship because smaller, faster vessels will hunt and bring the dead whales to the mothership for processing.

Does this mean Japan is planning to resume whaling in the southern ocean?
I think they will if they can get away with it. We need to support groups that oppose whaling more than ever. 
If we don't fight it, it will happen. Whales are already struggling to survive. They do not need a mothership going after them.

Appalling news. Japan has long desired to resume whale hunting on a large scale, but up to now world opinion has held it back.

The irony of all this is that whale meat is now toxic from pollution and even dangerous if eaten regularly in large quantities. See:

Yes, this is terrible. As they deplete the whales, they are poisoning themselves. The whales won't be gone overnight. The effects of the toxins consumed won't occur over night. Many people, even if they quit eating whale meat, will have already consumed too much. Japan is heading for a health crisis.

The whales are heading for a population crisis. I hope we can reverse this and save most of the world's whale species.
