Deer with head stuck in a bag is rescued
#1
A deer in the Kenora area was spotted with a birdseed bag on its head. It was clearly distressed and in danger. Attempts to help failed so the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry were called in. They had to sedate the deer to remove the bag. The deer made a full recovery and was released the same day. She seems to be doing very well and there were no harmful effects from her ordeal.

I am glad the deer is fine. People acted quickly to get her help.
The real problem is that she was stuck in a birdseed bag. Of course she was attracted to the scent of the seed. In winter animals are always searching for food.
Plastic bags that contained food should be cut open before disposal so that no animal can become stuck. We know to do it for plastic chip bags and plastic lids.
Now we know that bird seed bags can endanger wildlife.

That means I need to cut open the bags that held my guinea pig food. If there is any doubt about a bag or container being dangerous, just cut it open.
None of us wants to be responsible for an animal dying.
