Tiger cub found in the garbage outside Athens Zoo
#1
On Feb 28, a cleaner at the Athens Zoo found a 3 month old white tiger cub under a garbage bin in the parking lot.
The little tiger was in terrible shape. She is still in serious condition. She was dehydrated and malnourished. Her diet must have been terrible.
Her bones are fragile. There is also a metal pin in one of her legs.
When she recovers and is strong enough, she will be relocated to a sanctuary.
International wildlife groups have already reached out to the zoo to offer help.
The tiger is most likely a victim of the illegal wildlife trade.

The wildlife trade in Europe is a billion Euro business. Animals are imported illegally that are not suited to being pets.
It ends badly for them. Who ever had the tiger was clearly not able to care for her. The only good thing is that they gave up soon enough that she can be saved. If she had been malnourished too long she might have suffered irreversible damage or even died.
I hope they are able to identify who dropped the tiger off. Even better would be finding out where she came from in the first place.
Wildlife trafficking needs to be stopped. People need to stop buying the animals and the sellers need to be caught.
