College wants to remove 10 year old feral cat colony
#1
College of the Rockies, in BC's East Kootenay, plans to remove a feral cat colony that has been there 10 years. The cats are all neutered and vaccinated. They have housing, water and food provided, by a local rescue group.
A  petition against the removal gathered over 20,000 signatures.
The cats have been there ten years. Why are they suddenly a problem.
At very least, the rescue who care for the cats should have been contacted and given time to find a new location.

This is cruel. Many of the cats will die. They will all be distressed by the move.
The colony is neutered and has been there for ten years. If the college wants them gone, they just have to wait a few years.
A neutered feral cat colony will gradually die out because there are no kittens to replace the older cats.
It is not going to look good for the college if they go ahead with the removal. Even waiting until summer would help. It would be easier to relocate the animals in warmer weather. They would have time to settle in before being faced with cold weather again.
