After 50 years, Lolita the Orca will return to the Pacific ocean
#1
Lolita, the Orca was captured  in the north pacific ocean, in Puget Sound, 50 years ago. She has existed in a small tank in  Florida ever since.
She is now to be returned to the Pacific Ocean. She can't actually be released to the open ocean after all this time, but she can live in a sea sanctuary.
She will still be in her home waters and she will live as a free whale, in a protected setting.

After 50 years in a small tank, she will be able to swim freely and enjoy the delights of real ocean water.
This news comes soon after the death of Kiska, the last captive Orca in Canada. Kiska didn't live long enough to see freedom.
Lolita's partner, Hugo, died in 1980 after ramming his head against the tank  walls over and over.

Lolita will be in the sanctuary in a matter of months where she can live out her remaining years as a free whale.
Many people have worked for this. They refused to give up until Lolita was free.
I can't wait to hear that she is actually at the sanctuary enjoying her life at last.
