Genetic disorders that effect the health of our cats and dogs
#1
There are a number of genetic disorders that can effect the health of our cats and dogs. Some dogs are genetically prone to hip dysplasia or cataracts. Some cats are prone to type 2 diabetes. Many pets are prone to allergies. They can be treated, but they are not cured.

I am sure we will not stop loving our pets even if we know they are going to develop a health problem. It would help us to look after them better if we knew.
If you know cats are prone to diabetes, you would make sure your cat did not gain weight. You could watch your dog for signs of eye trouble and be prepared for cataract surgery when it is needed. The more we know the better we can take care of our pets. It may be possible some day to do genetic testing so we know if there will be a problem. The earlier we deal with something the better it will be for our pet.
