The Cripple Creek donkeys run wild all summer
#1
Cripple Creek was a mining town back in the days where donkeys worked in the mines. President Roosevelt visited the town in 1901 and he felt bad that the donkeys were always underground. He asked the town to let them out into the light.
Donkeys are no longer used in the mines, but the town has kept a herd going by rescuing donkeys. Every year when it warms up they turn the donkeys loose to wander the town. They are well looked after and everyone loves them. When it turns cold they have a nice warm pen that they are happy to return to.
Donkeys helped the town get started and survive during the mining years. The town feels that it is only right to honor donkeys now for the help they gave in the past.

What a beautiful town. They used donkeys in the past. Now they are recognizing that fact and honoring the donkeys.
This should be an example to other places that have used and are still using animals.
