Finding Rover-new technology to find lost dogs
#1
I just came across an article about using new facial recognition technology to find lost dogs. Apparently it works. There are not too many places using it yet, but if it spread it would really help dogs find their way home.

Of course dogs should be micro chipped and the registry kept up to date. Also the software only helps if people actually apply it. The technology is out there. No dog should stay lost for very long.

That sounds like a very good idea. If every 'found' dog taken by dog wardens or shelters, were put onto the database, and the dogs' potential families notified, it could result in quick reunions!

I think the facial recognition software has a lot of potential to reunite lost people and pets. How clever of someone to apply it to dogs.

Would it work on cats I wonder?

A fascinating development, with great potential.

It certainly would speed up the reuniting process. It might even help to reunite a pet that has been gone awhile and is not so easy to recognize.

We have the technology. We may as well find a way to use it that really helps.
