7 Bison calves born at Metis Crossing Wildlife Park, Alberta
#1
Bison were native to the area of Metis Crossing. Sadly, the last time Bison ran wild in the area was 160 years ago.
Last year 20 Bison were brought to the area From Elk Island National Park. This summer they have had 7 calves born.
The reintroduction of Bison is bringing back the land and it is bringing back the culture of the people.
The people and the land are linked.

This is fantastic. Everywhere Bison have been reintroduced, they help restore the land and maintain its health.
Bison bring about biodiversity of both plants and animals.

In areas where Indigenous people are linked to the land the Bison restore the health of the people. The Bison symbolize the ecological damage that was done to the prairies. When the Bison were gone the land became unhealthy. As the Bison return, the beautiful prairies return.
