Cat visits to a nursing home improve the mobility of residents
#1
A cat café in Singapore brought a number of its cats to a nursing home. The results were amazing.
The program is called Purrs for Hearts.
People with limited mobility were still able to interact with the cats. Stroke patients could still pet a cat. Dementia patients responded to the cats better than was expected.
People did more with a cat and benefitted as much as a physiotherapy session.

We have known for years that animals have a positive effect on people. Programs to bring animals and people together should be built into every nursing home. Hospitals would benefit from animal visits. Right now trained therapy dogs visit some hospital wards. There are never enough trained animals. Just ordinary cats would benefit people by their presence.
I hope the nursing home in Singapore continues the visits and documents the effects. They could become an example for other nursing homes.
