The Right Whales are closer to extinction than expected. There are only about 300 left and only 70 of those are breeding age females.
We nearly wiped them out with whaling. Now it is impacts with ships and entanglement with fishing gear that are killing them.

It is unclear if the species can survive. If the deaths continue at the same rate, it doesn't look good.
We need to clean up all the fishing gear that is floating in our oceans. That doesn't just kill right whales. A lot of species are harmed by fishing gear.
