It is raining Iguanas in Florida
#1
Every time the weather turns cold in Florida, Iguanas, who are not native to Florida, go into a state of torpor. They lose muscle control and fall out of trees.
They are not dead, they are unconscious. When walking under trees people need to be careful. Iguanas can be 4 ft long and being hit by a falling iguana would be a bit dangerous. It is not recommended to handle the lizards or bring them inside. They will wake up and they will not be happy to find themselves inside.

This happens every year. Florida has a lot of Iguanas. They are an invasive species and cause a lot of problems.
Every year I wonder why they don't round up the unconscious lizards. It would be an easy catch. I would hope they could rescue them and rehome them to a sanctuary. Yes they need to caught and removed from the area, but they didn't ask to be there. We owe them a safe life since we caused this problem.
