100 dogs rescued from a cull in Northern Saskatchewan
#1
The town of La Loche Saskatchewan was overwhelmed by dogs and it planned a cull. They paid people ten dollars for each dog turned in.
At the last minute a number of rescue groups mobilized (yes they did have a large truck) and they brought the dogs to safety. They are being cared for and will be distributed to a number of shelters. Eventually they will all have forever homes.
The cull itself was cancelled because of the backlash against it.

The northern communities do not have access to spay and neuter services. There is little veterinary care.
People end up with puppies they cannot care for. Many dogs end up as strays. Small towns are desperate enough to consider culls.
What is really needed is some consistent help to control the dog population.
