Orca calf refuses to leave the lagoon where her mother died
#1
The mother has been dead for days now and the baby is still there in the lagoon. Rescuers have been unable to persuade it to leave. There is only an hour a day where the tide is right. It is not an easy rescue. The calf is traumatized and won't leave.
People are out searching for the Orca's Pod so they can reunite the calf with family.
Sadly the mother Orca was already pregnant with another calf when she died. The loss was actually two whales.

This is a sad story. The tides are tricky and they come up so fast and go out so fast. Many lagoons have narrow openings that are not under water at low tide.
It is too easy to misjudge things and end up trapped or even stranded. That is what happened to the mother. Let's hope they can rescue the calf.

The struggle to save the baby orca continue. People are determined to save the young whale.

If she can be reunited with her pod. the people helping her will make it happen. They are determined. I keep hoping the next article I read is about the baby orca swimming free with her family pod.

The saga continues. The little Orca just can't seem to leave the lagoon.
Part of that is a problem with tides. The tides are too low, even at high tide.
That will change in a few days.

Hopefully when the tide changes the young Orca will be able to leave.
At least the whale is eating. There is still a chance of a good outcome to this situation.

They are really using technology to help the little whale. There is an AI program that tracks Orcas and it will be used to try and find the orphaned whale's pod.
They are still working on ways to get the baby out of the lagoon.

It is beautiful that they refuse to give up on the orphaned Orca. If it can be rescued, they will do it.

Plans are now being made to feed the baby Orca. Long term plans involve airlifting the Orca out of the lagoon and holding her in a sea pen until she can be reunited with her own pod.

People are not giving up on the little Orca. They tried to save the mother and failed. They don't want to fail the baby.
We just have to keep hoping for success.

An attempt was made to move the the baby Orca. The weather was right. All the equipment was there. Sadly the Orca did not cooperate.
They had to pause the rescue and try again another day.

The rescuers are not giving up and they will eventually succeed. The orca calf is in good shape doing well.
It is only a matter of time before she is safe with her family pod.

The Orca calf is still in the lagoon, but she is eating. They brought her some seal meat and she took it.
They are still working on rescue plans. She is 700 kg so it is no small rescue.

I am impressed by the dedication and the determination to rescue the calf. I know they wanted to rescue the mother. They really tried. Now the last thing they can do for her is to save her child. If it can be done, they will make it happen.
