Museum Macaw Mascot to join a flock of Macaws
#1
The Maritime Museum of the Atlantic in Halifax has had a Macaw Mascot since 2006. Merlin has been very happy there and loved the public interaction.
Then Covid  hit and the museum was closed to the public. The staff did their best to interact with Merlin, but he missed the public. He has become depressed.
It has been decided that Merlin will be better with other macaws for companionship. He is being transferred to Safari Niagara in Fort Erie, Ontario. He will join their flock of Macaws. They even have a Macaw who is unbonded and it is hoped they could pai off. It will be a change for Merlin, but it should be a change for the better.

Parrots are complex birds, with complex needs. What they are doing is considering what the bird needs. Merlin will need to get used to seeing other Macaws, but I think he will really like them right from the start. Any kind of bird like a Macaw is a big responsibility. The have longer lifespans and they have complex social needs. I an glad the museum took that seriously and acted to give Merlin a happier life.
