Watch your step, turtles hatching
#1
This is a big week in Toronto for park goers. The cherry blossoms are in bloom. Turtle Protectors is asking visitors wanting to see the cherry blossoms to also see the turtles. In other words, watch where you put your feet because there are baby turtles hatching. The mothers come out of the ponds and lay their eggs. They winter underground and now that spring is here, they hatch and crawl back to the ponds. It is a dangerous time for a little turtle. Hundreds of visitors wanting to see cherry blossoms increase the dangers for little turtles.

We should always watch out for turtles and other animals when we invade their space. Humans tend to focus on one thing at a time and miss everything else that is going on around them. I would think a chance to see baby turtles hatching would be more exciting than watching trees bloom. The crowds will be looking at the trees though. I hope no baby turtles are injured coming out of the nest. That would be too sad. There are other parks with cherry blossoms that are not near turtle nesting sites.
