The world's smallest elephant in danger of extinction
#1
The Island of Borneo has an Asian elephant that is much smaller than its mainland cousins. It is also recognized as a separate sub species of the Asian Elephant. These elephants are much smaller and have a gentle, playful nature. They number about a thousand and are declining because of habitat loss.
Habitat loss puts them in conflict with humans. Habitat loss is a result of the palm oil trade.

It is hoped that conservation efforts can save this unique species.
Palm oil plantations have caused problems for a number of species. They also put Orangutans at risk.
Maybe we need to rethink our use of palm oil. If we stop using it, there will be no need to destroy habitats of the other side of the planet.
There are plenty of oil sources that are more sustainable. We don't have to keep destroying forest to grow more palm trees.
If you want to help stop the habitat loss, pay attention when you shop. Choose foods that don't put the little elephant at risk.
