Chickens killed in crash on major Ontario highway
#1
There was a collision on a major Ontario highway involving a transport truck carrying live chickens.
You know chickens were killed, injured and many escaped. The only things I heard in the news were about traffic delays and what a "clucking" mess it was.
There was no mention of animals suffering. After the escaped chickens were recaptured they probably continued on their way to the slaughterhouse.

I did not hear one word of compassion or concern for the chickens. They were on their way to the slaughterhouse, so nobody cared.
Have we become that callous?
PETA thinks so and plans to put up a billboard in that spot as a memorial to the chickens who suffered and died in that spot.

We use animals in so many ways. We should always be aware of how they are treated. Live transport is a particularly stressful time and it is also very dangerous. Even without collisions, animals are killed in transit. We need to address this issue. How we treat animals says a lot about us and right now what is says is not good.

Indeed! To be honest, those chickens which were killed outright were probably better off than those who survived (who went to a slaughter house to be killed in a horribly painful way)....and better off than those chickens who were never in an accident but suffer the same fate every day.

I hadn't even thought of that, but you are right. Chickens are treated horribly. A traffic accident is not the worst thing they face.
They have suffered even worse because of bird flu culls. When they want to cull thousands of birds in a hurry, they don't take the time to kill humanely.

I don't think history will speak well of us when it considers how we treated the planet and the creatures that inhabit it.
