A hiker on Vancouver Island came across an elk entangled in the remains of a parachute. It had likely been there for days. She approached carefully and used tools she had with her to cut the elk free. It took about 25 min of work, then elk was able to walk away. The hiker carried on down the trail and later reported the incident to Conservation Search and Rescue.

Thanks to that hiker the elk is alive. She was a well prepared hiker, she had the tools needed to free the elk.
You should always prepare when you go out into the woods. You never know what you will find.
A parachute shouldn't have been one of the things out there. Somebody owned that parachute. However it ended up where it was, it was the responsibility of the owner to collect it. It was just lucky for the elk that help arrived in time. It could have ended badly. When we leave garbage out there in nature we put wildlife at risk.
