Petition/online protest to stop the Gadhimai Slaughter Festival in November!
#21
I found some more petitions.

Compassion in World Farming has worked to bring awareness of this slaughter and to push for action against it.

It seems that the work to stop the slaughter started right after the last slaughter. There is little time left. I hope something can be done.

There is a documentary called Tears of Fear that is going to be screened on Nov 1. I think once it has been shown there should be a reaction against the slaughter.
If it appears online I will post a link.

I am sure there are more articles, but there is a lot in this post. Time is running out. We must increase the pressure if possible.

Update: the protest in London seems to have gone well, and a Nepal embassy official came out to accept the petition. There is an article here: http://www.ciwf.org.uk/news/2014/10/joan...-sacrifice

Sadly, although Gadhimai is by far the biggest animal slaughter, it is definitely not the most cruel. I was shocked to read of the terrible things that go on at the Khokana Festival and Dasain Festival (both of which are also in Nepal):

and
http://stopanimalsacrifice.org/dashain-festival.php

One should be clear, however, that these festivals are mostly popular with local people, with a very limited understanding of what Hinduism stands for. As the first link shows (about the protest in London), prominent Hindu organisations condemn these cruel animal sacrifices, too.

Animal sacrifices and animal killing festivals are a weird hold over from the past. The world was a much more barbaric place and world religions were more primitive. On the whole we are trying to move away from such cruelty, but it is hard to change people.

I think all our protests and petitions are having an effect. Good news that the London protest went well. It sounds like Nepal wants change. However it is going to be tough to change things on the local level.

How do you reach people who think drowning and cruelly killing a goat will bring blessings. When I look at these festivals I feel like I must be reading a history book. This can't really be happening in the 21st century. Actually I find it hard to believe that people thought it was okay even centuries ago. Cruelty is never okay.

The fight is still on to stop the slaughter. If it can't be totally stopped, it can be cut back. There is a lot of pressure to end this horrible event.

I am sure it not be as wild as previous slaughters. There is too much pressure and too much public awareness. If it does take place, the world will be watching and might be enough to prevent another.

We can only hope and keep the pressure up.

I know. It is hard to understand. No "God" needs us to inflict hellish circumstances on another Soul.

The world is a strange mixture of intelligent, sensitive, reasonable people and strangely superstitions, ignorant, irrational people.

I am glad I am not in the primitive superstitious group, but it is hard to sit by and watch what they do and be able to stop it.

I think this is a very important event to test how much reasonable people can influence or at even block the actions of what can only be called a murderous mob.
