Update: the protest in London seems to have gone well, and a Nepal embassy official came out to accept the petition. There is an article here: http://www.ciwf.org.uk/news/2014/10/joan...-sacrifice
Sadly, although Gadhimai is by far the biggest animal slaughter, it is definitely not the most cruel. I was shocked to read of the terrible things that go on at the Khokana Festival and Dasain Festival (both of which are also in Nepal):
http://stopanimalsacrifice.org/khokana-festival.php
and
http://stopanimalsacrifice.org/dashain-festival.php
One should be clear, however, that these festivals are mostly popular with local people, with a very limited understanding of what Hinduism stands for. As the first link shows (about the protest in London), prominent Hindu organisations condemn these cruel animal sacrifices, too.
