Animal companions benefit seniors

It is well known and still  being studied that seniors benefit from companion animals.
For someone who is alone, a pet can provide company and mental/emotional stimulation.

There are drawbacks if the senior is not able to care for the pet properly. Many places don't allow pets.
If they can't have their own pet, even a pet visit would help. An animal companion does so much good, it
is worth any difficulties a person might have. Maybe volunteers could be found to help a local senior with their pet.
Animals could visit local nursing homes. If you have a dog and a nearby senior, maybe you could loan out your dog for the
time you are at work. You could even ask in such a way that the senior appears to be doing you the favour.
The dog would love the company and so would the senior, so every body wins.
We know pets and seniors are a good thing, we just need to find ways to make it work.
