World Migratory Bird Day 2026

[Catherine]

It is world Migratory Bird day 2026.

We celebrate this twice a year because birds migrate between two locations. There are many different migrations of many different species of birds. These migrations are very important. They allow bird to live in climates that can't sustain birds all year round. Those birds are an important part of their ecosystems for the months that they can live there. They are an important part of the ecosystem that they live in for the other part of the year.
It is a dangerous journey and it is hard work, but they do it every year.

If you live on a migration path, now is the time to watch for birds. I get to see birds that live in the extreme north as they pass through  my area on their way to a place they can safely winter. It is an exciting time because I see birds I would never see normally.
Good luck bird watching.
