There must be a big difference in how healthy the egg is. I doubt the egg that comes from a highly stressed cage hen is very healthy.
Eating has become very complicated. We do have to think about where our food comes from. If it is an unethical and unhealthy source then we need to look else where. At least there are choices now and people can choose free range eggs.
Your chickens are not producing eggs? They are a free ranging group from what you have said.
