300 dogs flown out ahead of Hurricane Maria
#1
Sali Gear, a Virginia Beach woman who is involved in rescuing dogs, planned to rescue a few at a time from the Virgin Islands after Hurricane Irma hit. With Hurricane Maria bearing down as a serious hurricane she knew she had to act fast. With help she chartered a plane and flew 300 dogs out at once.

These dogs may have been through a lot, but they are lucky dogs. They were saved from a second hurricane and now they will find good homes with loving people and life will be good for them.

The response to animals in need has been amazing. I am sure we will never hear all the stories, but every story we hear is more incredible than the last one.  In the face of disaster people can be amazing.

I just read about that tonight. What a hero she is. Those dogs are very lucky. I saw some footage of Maria's effect on Puerto Rico. It is very sad indeed what has happened there.

I found some pictures.  Most of the homes are beyond repair. Wind and rain are so destructive. Everywhere is damaged.

Getting the 300 dogs out of the area was the only way to save them. I doubt the shelters are in any position to look after animals right now.
